About Us
Bodhgaya ENLIGHTENMENT Marathon is probably the first spiritual marathon in India. It is an extension of the already popular Lumbini PEACE Marathon which is organized in Lumbini — the birthplace of Buddha every year on the Full Moon Day of March. Bodhgaya ENLIGHTENMENT Marathon connects most of the sites related to the life of the Buddha in Bodhgaya. The marathon track includes a section – from Dhungeshwari caves to the ancient Senanigaon and Senanigaon to the Bodhi tree – believed to have been walked by the Buddha himself before the last leg of his meditation. According to legends, Sujata offered rice pudding to a frail Buddha who came down after meditating in Mahakala Caves for six years. After eating the rice pudding, Buddha crossed the Niranjana River and began meditation under the Bodhi tree where he attained enlightenment.
Bodhgaya ENLIGHTENMENT Marathon offers you an opportunity to run on the very path that Buddha walked. This marathon is an extension of Lumbini PEACE Marathon which is organized annually in Lumbini – Kapilvastu region where the Buddha was born and brought up. Like Buddha travelled to Bodhgaya in search of enlightenment, Lumbini PEACE Marathon has also gone to Bodhgaya in the footsteps of Siddhartha Gautam Buddha.
